2019 in Review

So we are only a few days into 2020 and we have to talk about what a whirlwind 2019 has been. At the start of 2019 I said that this year I was going to think more about what I have achieved and stop comparing myself to others. Well, that was probably the best advice that I could have given myself as 2019 have been my year.

To start the year off I started my new job. This has been great, getting money in and using my time well by working. But this has been also a downfall as I haven't had much time to blog. I love blogging but I actually like my job a little more and in the world of adulthood blogging had to take a step back. I mean I wasn't really fully back as I was still all over the place with my mental health, this made blogging difficult even when I wasn't busy. My job gets me doing a lot of work and it doesn't feel like I have been working there for nearly a year now. Plus I get t work with chickens everyday and I have to say chickens have wonderful personalities.

In April, I finally go on the road and purchased a car. Being able to drive around has really been good for me. Being able to have the freedom of going somewhere when I want to and to be able to go to work without having to rely and burden others. It is a great feeling getting on the road and driving others around rather than vice versa. I mean I still get driven around but that is usually when we are going shopping or visiting family and friends.

In June, I celebrated my 27th Birthday and we decided to take the plunge and talk to a mortgage adviser. We wanted to see what was available to us and whether we could afford to move out. Little did we know that 4 months later we would be moving in to our own place. Just getting to start the process would have been great enough, but actually finding out that you can get on the property ladder was amazing. So the search began only to end in a house being found and an offer put in, which was accepted.

In September, we exchanged contracts and we only had to wait one moth till we could get the keys to move in. In the mean time we reached out 10 year anniversary and celebrated with a stay-cation in the Cotswolds and saw a lot of animals, visiting Bristol Zoo, Crocodiles of the World and Cotswolds Wildlife Park. It was a wonderful break to celebrate our anniversary.

October came and boy was it busy. I went off for a week to do a course for work and when I got back it was only a few weeks and we were moving into our new home. On the 25th I picked up the keys and opened the door to a new chapter. The house looked massive with nothing in it, I ran around the house several times as I could not believe that this was mine. That evening Bruce joined me and then we headed back to my dads ready for a full day of moving in the morning. We were moving till 12 at night but we did it, though we did have injuries along the way. The following day the boys went out to pick up all the leftover furniture that we Facebooked. This left me to unpack and sort out which felt like I hadn't done anything. Either way it didn't matter we were in and getting settled.

Then December came a long and we were ready for the holidays and a holiday to Lanzarote. Lanzarote was a much needed break from sorting out the house and work. We had an amazing time going to the market, the zoo, a tour of the north of the island and just chilling by the pool. Plus I didn't get sick. Once back in the UK however I went down with a cold/flu. I lost my hearing and was pretty much at deaths door but I was soldiering on to prepare of Christmas. My goal from the start was to have our first Christmas in our new home and I was going to cook the dinner. Well I did it and on Boxing day as well. I think Christmas was a huge success and am glad I did it.

That brings us to today. I cannot wait to find out what 2020 will bring. It seems really cliche, but this time last year I would have never thought I would be where I am today. I would have laughed if you said that I would be a home owner, I never though that it would happen that quickly but look at me now. It is amazing what you can achieve when you stop comparing yourself to others and start looking at your own achievements.

Here's to 2020
