The Essential Rules of Gift-Buying for Him

Wednesday, August 09, 2017

Many people find buying a gift for a person of the opposite gender to be an extremely challenging task. If you are the kind of person who spends hours and hours trying to choose the perfect present, here are a few rules that you can follow to give you a helping hand. Ultimately, it is all about preparing as early as possible so you can pick up on some of their major interests and passions at the time and buy a gift that matches him.

Rule One: Plan and Prepare
Rather than just going straight down to your nearest shopping centre and aimlessly wandering around the aisles, you should take the time to make a list of everything the man in your life is interested in. Try to make this list as long as possible so you have the widest variety of things to choose from. Once you have done this, you can start coming up with potential gifts in each area. If you can overlap a couple of interests on the list, you definitely get bonus points!

Rule Two: Don’t Put Price Ahead of Thought
Though “it’s the thought that counts” is one of the oldest sayings in the book, it still has the ring of truth about it. When you think about it, people only tend to remember a handful of gifts during their lifetime and they are often not the ones with the biggest price tag. So, try to think of something that has personal appeal - a gift that will always be kept rather than one that will be thrown out in a couple of years.

Rule Three: Make the Gift Useful or Sentimental
Many men are practically minded so would love something that is useful in their day-to-day lives. So, think about their hobbies and something that would actually come in useful. If he is into DIY, a new toolbox may be the ideal choice. If he is passionate about running, go for a new pair of shorts or a Fitbit. If he is interested in fashion, rather than something that is off the rack, you could look at tailor made suits. Alternatively, you could make the gift sentimental - a reminder of a particularly special time in their lives. This could bring back a passion he had as a child or a memorable holiday. The more you know about him, the more likely it will be that you know exactly what would suit him.

Rule Four: Get an Experience

If you can’t think of a physical gift that is right for him, you could instead get an experience which is something that is much more likely to be remembered. So, if he is an adrenaline junkie, you could go for a skydiving experience. If he loves a particular band or artist, concert tickets may be the perfect option.

Hopefully, these four rules have provided you with a little more inspiration when it comes to choosing the perfect gift for him.
