Quick Fixes For Problem Skin

The key to glowing, beautiful skin is a healthy diet, plenty of exercise, and drinking enough water each day. We know this, and yet we don’t always adhere to it. And then, of course, there are environmental factors which also lead to skin issues. When problem skin appears, it can take time to restore the body’s natural balance. In the meantime, try these quick fixes.

1. Breakouts
You know the drill. You have a party, interview, significant date coming up and like clockwork you notice some spots appearing. You have taken out the big guns and treated them with the best acne cream known to man, but what do you do in the meantime?

  • Cleanse and moisturise your face, as usual, allowing a little time for the moisturiser to sink in
  • Apply your primer
  • Dab on a concealer that is the same colour as your foundation over the blemish
  • Apply your foundation over the top of the concealer
  • Apply the rest of your makeup in the usual way and seal with a light powder

The concealer and foundation will disguise your spots and reduce the colour. It’s important not to choose a concealer that is markedly different to your skin tone as this will only serve to highlight the problem area.

2. Dry Skin
You’re in a rush and applying your makeup before work. However, as you dab on your foundation, you notice that your skin is flaking badly. Your foundation is exacerbating the problem. You make a mental note to drink more water but what can you do right now.

Unfortunately, there’s no other way around this. You’re going to have to start again from scratch. Wash off your makeup and apply a gentle exfoliant. Never use harsh or abrasive products on the face. A face polish should be sufficient. Apply your moisturiser generously and allow it a minute or so to sink in fully. Then apply your primer which will provide you with an even surface on which to add your makeup. Use your fingers to apply the foundation, rather than applicators or brushes and keep the strokes extra gentle. This should solve the problem in the short term but make sure you rehydrate.

3. Wrinkles
Age comes to us all, and it is a gift. And while we appreciate this, we wish that it didn’t bring wrinkles with it. It is important to note that fine lines and wrinkles appear more prominent when the skin is dry. Using the techniques mentioned in point 2 can help in the short term. When skin is hydrated and moisturised, skin appears plumped up, and wrinkles are reduced.

Botox is another option and will significantly reduce wrinkles quickly and efficiently. It’s a non-surgical and non-invasive procedure that has an immediate and noticeable impact.

How quickly our skin ages is due, in part, to our genetics. However, there are many environmental factors that can contribute to the aging process. Following the steps below can help prevent premature aging:

  • Drinking plenty of water each day
  • Getting enough sleep each night
  • Starting and maintaining a beauty routine
  • Staying out of the sun and using products with high SPF
  • Quitting smoking
  • Eating a healthy and balanced diet
