My Go To Holiday Look

Relaxing on the beach or by the pool is what most people will be doing this summer, and I'm one of them. I've recently come back from Cyprus and during my time out there I was using the same products and same hair style day in day out.

That hot summer sun and sweaty heat can be problematic for makeup and you usually find that the makeup runs or even disappears. If your a born mermaid like me, you love to swim and splash around in the pool and sea and finding products that actually stay on can be tricky. But here is my take on the water and sweat proof makeup, which became my holy grail during my time in Cyprus.

The products that I used every day were:
  1. Dr Jart+ Premium BB Beauty Balm
  2. NYX HD Concealer (CW01)
  3. Rimmel Clear Complexion Powder (Translucent)
  4. Loreal Nude Magique BB Powder (Light, used a small amount)
  5. Nars Deep Throat Blush
  6. Carmex Mint Lip Balm
  7. Benefit They're Real mascara
  8. Maybelline Colossal Go Extreme Waterproof Mascara
  9. Bourjois Metallise Waterproof Eye Liner (54 Bleu Clinquant)
  10. NYX Butter Gloss (Apple Strudel)
Starting with Dr Jart BB cream, you only need between 1-2 pumps to apply to the face and neck. As this product contains SPF 40 it is great as a sun cream as well, as helping even out the skin tone. This is by far one of the best BB creams I have used, it is a universal shade and will adapt to any skin tone without leaving that orange tinge to it. This product does come out a little damp, which is why I used some powders to set my face. As the product was a sheer foundation any movement or running was never noticed and the skin still look clear, even and protected.

I used NYX HD concealer to test out the product, but after a couple of tests I couldn't stop using it. It is on the lighter side (as it is the lightest color), so a slightly darker color would have been better for a tanned complexion. (Remember that your skin will tan slightly so ensure you have a slightly darker foundation and concealer, you don't want to look pale and ill) However, this product was fairly easy to blend out as well as keeping the coverage, though, I only used this product under my eyes and on extreme blemishes (not that there were many). Not wanted to cake myself it was also a good highlight without the shimmer.

Setting all the foundation and concealer with a light powder helps just matte down the shine, and can help prolong the wear of the foundation. The concealer doesn't really need the powder as most can withstand water, its only when you really rub your face that it comes off. The Rimmel Clear Complexion powder is great at being a light powder and with a sheer foundation also helps fight blemishes (yes I did find it helped, strange right). The Loreal Nude Magique BB powder was mainly used as a little more coverage on larger blemishes which were healing. This powder was used and should be used sparingly as it is very opaque and is compared to the MAC Studio Fix powder.

With a tanning face I didn't really contour much but a blush was a must and in a summery color was needed. After purchasing Nars Deep Throat blush at IMATS, it was a color I knew I was going to use again and again. The color is very similar to Benefit's Coralista blush and being a powder to help further fix it to the face I used MAC Fix +

Lips can be the easiest thing to forget to protect on holiday, and it is quite hard to actually find a lip balm with SPF in it. But, I found one in the form of Carmex lip balm with SPF 30, great to stop sun burnt lips and in the flavor Mint it helped aid fresh breath and I enjoy the fresh tingle it gives. Applying the lip balm a little time before your lip gloss or stick, allows time for the lips to absorb the lip balm.

While the lips are soaking up the goodness its time to do the eyes. No need to mess around with eye shadow and eye liner, all you need to do is mascara top lashes (not the bottom, it still can run even if its waterproof). I used the Benefit They're Real mascara first to create long lushous lashes and topped it off with Maybelline's Colossal Go Extreme waterproof mascara. When using a waterproof mascara you need to apply it to the back and front of the lashes, this was any previous mascara will be coated and shouldn't run. They're Real is also a very strong holding mascara which can be tricky to be removed any way so it is a good product to use.

To add a pop of color to the look I opted for a metallic turquoise colored waterproof eyeliner from Bourjois. I love this liner and it deffinatly makes the eyes stand out, you can use this liner on the top of the bottom lashes. I generally used it on the bottom lash line as there was not much going on down there and being a bright color it would create a little more definition to the eye. The color itself was perfect for the summer and the mermaid theme, and being a wannabe mermaid its the best color to go for. The only thing I would suggest is to try not to rub under the eye, as constant hard rubbing will cause the product to smear and rub off the skin. But as a waterproof product it does stand up to both pool and sea water.

Finally, add a little bit of color to those lips. A light peach or nude shade will do wonders and it will give off a natural look and if the product comes away it will not look too noticeable. My product of choice was NYX Butter Gloss in Apple Strudel, which is a beautiful peach shade and great for summer. Having a gloss means it will be a lot easier to apply when back on the beach and you will not have to worry about products, such as lip sticks, melting. The Butter Glosses in particular kept my lips hydrated, which is great  as a lot of pool, sea and shower use can dry out your skin and lips.

As well as my go to makeup, I would always braid my hair after my shower. This is an idea I would suggest to anyone wanting to get a more effortless natural beach wave look. Always protect your hair after washing with a heat protect-ant spray and then braid the hair. The heat from the sun will dry the hair fairly quick and once dry the hair will have a natural beach wave, great for mermaids hehe x

Before bed always apply a moisturizer, I chose a light one as I am oily skinned. This is because the flight and over washing/rinsing of the skin can leave it dried out. Moisturizing the skin before bed will help the skin hydrate in a better temperature and the skin/body recovers better while you sleep. And don't forget water is still a good way to keep the body hydrated and the skin healthy and the more dehydrated you are the more drier your skin will become.

What is your go to holiday look?

Stay gorgeous and healthy. See you in my next blog.
